Digital Witchcraft
« on: March 17, 2004, 02:41:38 PM »
I have never been a huge fan of progressive house, but after a recent mix I heard, that might change.  Most fans will tell you they love how 'smooth' it is.  I think what turned me off was when every prog dj/producer was fighting to claim the title 'most minimalist'.  Case in point being Digweed's Global Underground Los Angeles (sorry Diggers, but I'd even go as far as to call the album boring).  The minimalist days appear to be in the past and prog may turn out to have a bright future after all.  Why the change of heart?  Well, I recently got ahold of set by Digital Witchcraft (Ned Shephard and Marcus Bacalis).  The set was from Oslo Nights on Feb. 14 and was the first I had heard of the duo.  All I can say is that Djmixes2k was right when labeled them 'progressive perfection'.  The mixing is flawless and smooth, as is to be expected from a true prog set.  What makes this set stand out is the track selection.  The tracks, while mellow compared to, say, hard trance, actually have energy and variety.  The set is both energizing and relaxing at the same time.  Here is the tracklisting:

01. Intro - Marcus Andrew - Mushrooms at the Airport
02. Telepopmusik - Love Can Damage Your Health (Laid Mix)
03. Jiva - Untitled
04. Echomen - Thru To You (Nova Scotia Mix)
05. Amiel - Obsession (Infusion Remix)
06. Habersham - Body Phunk (Christian J. remix)
07. Infusion - Dead Souls
08. The Operators - Furball
09. Habersham & Numinous - Leaving Tifton (Digital Witchcraft's Miles From Melbourne Mix)
10. Jono Fernandez - Deliver Me (Digital Witchcraft's East Coast Mix)

I highly recommend tracking down a copy of this set if you can or seeing them live if they are spinning in your town.  Even a diehard tranceaddict will enjoy!  :D

If you really want to have full access to all the live/radio mixes out there, download a program called Soulseek.  It's a peer to peer sharing program and it's free.  You can find just about anything for any artist.  The search function works a lot faster if you just type Witchcraft, then sort descending by size and you should see all the hour long mixes near the top.  Here's the web address:

http://www.slsknet.org/download.html

If you liked the Digital Witchcraft mixes, track down some mixes by Sultan on soulseek.  A lot of what you hear in those DW mixes are Sultan productions.  The guy is amazing.

OH MY GOD. MARCUS IS MY BRO-IN-LAW'S BEST FRIEND. (ANDREW) I WAS JUST TYPING IN DIGITAL WITCHCRAFT INTO GOOGLE TO SEE IF THEY GOT SOME PUB.  I GUESS THEY DID!  KAYLEE'S BLANKET WAS NAMED AFTER MY NIECE....SIMPLY AMAZING. MARC IS IN MONTREAL NOW WITH NED....I CAN ASK HIM FOR HIS VINYL. HOW COOL THAT OTHERS ARE WRITING ABOUT HIM.  VERY COOL.

Hi Michaelyn!  Welcome to the d3 community  :D
We love digital witchcraft over here at d3.  I've still got that Oslo Nights set on my playlist.  I've even turned a few people on to dance music after making them listen to it.  Please tell them to keep up the good work and let us know if they are ever heading down to Los Angeles.
